BBM 6 brings loads of social goodness to the great messenger that you already know and love. There are plenty of apps on the way that will take full advantage of the BBM Social Platform, and there are already some that are ready to roll. So if you’re looking to get more social from your social, keep reading to see what apps you can use to get the most out of BBM.

Feeling the heat from both Android and iOS in the global smartphone market share battle, Research in Motion on Thursday announced the availability of BlackBerry Messenger 6 (BBM 6) the latest version of the smartphone maker’s trademark instant messaging application which integrates BBM functionality into other BlackBerry apps for a boost in social usability.

With the debut of the  BBM Social Platform SDK  earlier this year, BlackBerry app developers got the ability to embed BBM functionality into their apps. The platform is extremely promising, as it could put real time communication into any application. Users could, for example, see that one of their contacts is available to play games, and an invitation could be sent. Then, once the game has begun, users could have a live in-game BBM chat session.

BBM integration means being able to share your location with your friends, invite them into a social game, brag about your achievements or even collaborate on work through productivity apps. Presently, the list of BBM connected apps include: FourSquare, Wikitude, Score Mobile and more.

BBM 6 marks the beginning of an even greater social experience for BlackBerry smartphone users, said Research in Motion BBM Platform and Integrated Services Vice President Alistair Mitchell. It also represents an incredible opportunity for developers to leverage the viral nature of the BBM service and we have already begun working with various developer partners who will be bringing their BBM connected apps to BlackBerry App World this week, offering users highly engaging app experiences.

BBM-integrated applications include Score Mobile, FourSquare, Huffington Post app and Wikitude, along with other apps that can be found in the BlackBerry App World.
