Micromax Canvas Lite A92; A review

Having stepped into the mobile handset manufacturing industry relatively late, in 2008, Micromax has made quite a name for itself in the Indian market. Offering consumers high end smartphones at a pocket friendly price, is what the company is best known for.

Adding yet another handset to its repertoire, Micromax has come up with another pocket friendly smartphone for the Indian market the Canvas Lite A92.

Screen

The phone is quite large which is great if you are really into the phablet phone category. It boasts a clean 5 inch IPS LCD display, which has a screen resolution of 480 X 800 pixels (which pixel density wise comes up to approximately 187 ppi). Although not much (if you are comparing it to the higher end phones), the screen manages to deliver a decent colour contrast and is not too shabby, when it comes to image display.

Exterior

Although we are happy with the screen, the exteriors of the phone are not much to get excited about. The Canvas Lite A92 comes with plastic back panel which proudly displays the Micromax logo, with a speaker outlet at the bottom, and the phone camera at the top. Now we don’t demand the phone to have an aluminium chassis or anything fancy like that, but the plastic does make the phone look a tad cheap and shabby. It is a shame, given that the phone is not half that bad. If the makers had put in a little more effort to give the phone a cleaner look, this could have taken the Canvas Lite A92 to a different high.

Camera

The Lite A92 has two cameras; the one in the front is a 0.3 MP camera, while a 5 MP camera is situated at the back of the phone. The rear camera is accompanied by a LED flash. Other features that come along with the camera are Geo tagging, autofocus, touch focus and much more. The camera is capable of taking Video in 720p.

Interior

When it comes to the interior of the phone, the Canvas Lite A92 runs on the Android Jelly Bean v4.1.2. The hardware to go with this OS is a Dual core Mediatek 6577 processor, which is accompanied by a 512 MB RAM. The phone has been allotted only 4 GB space as internal memory. Although this may be little, you can expand it via a micro SD card. Sensor wise, the phone has within it an accelerometer and a proximity sensor. Other features that come on the Micromax Canvas Lite A92 are things like radio, radio recording, MP3 and MP4 players, document viewer, IM, Email and MMS.

The Micromax Canvas A92 is a dual SIM phone, which is a popular pick in the country, and works perfectly if you want to swap between two networks and want the best of both worlds. The Canvas A92 supports both 2G and 3G, making it a hot pick among those keen on devices that deliver quicker and heavy web browsing.

Micromax seems to have concentrated their efforts into making the Canvas lite A92 a ‘text- friendly phone’. The text feature on the phone requires a special mention. The A92 has a predictive text input, which is an intelligent messaging feature that predicts what you are typing in order to reduce time and aid the person texting the message. Although this software has gathered a little of a bad reputation (with the iPhone text jokes), don’t let that take away from you enjoying this feature. Typing messages on this phone is quite fun and the response in snappy.

Battery

The Canvas Lite A90 has a lithium ion 2000 mAh battery. Micromax claims that it clocks up to 240 hours in standby and delivers up to 6 hours of talk time, till you have to charge it again. The battery is enclosed in a removable back panel.

The Micromax Canvas Lite A92 price is approximately INR 8000, which may vary from site to site and dealer to dealer. But the real question here is, is it truly worth the price tag on it. Well taking into consideration all the features offered, it is not half that bad as compared to what others offer at a much higher price tag.
