Waze integrates with Google Maps, adds real time incident reporting

Remember Google acquiring Waze for as much as $1 billion? for all of you who would have thought that Google will shut the service down and use the man power to make its own Map service better is half connect.

Google has not the service down but added another layer to their famous Maps app on Android devices.


Google today announced that Maps users on Android will now be able to see real-time incident reports made by the Waze app users.

“Users of Google Maps for Mobile will now benefit from real time incident reports from Waze users. This means when Wazers report accidents, construction, road closures and more on Waze, the updates will also appear on the Google Maps app for Android,” informed Google on its blog.

It will be rolled-out in select countries including United States, UK, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Switzerland starting today.

In addition to the Google improvements, Waze users are getting Google search integration in the app, as well as Google Street View and satellite imagery in the Waze Map Editor. Good updates all around.
