Yesterday, Apple announced that OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 will be available in Summer 2012 and put a few features on the Apple website for the newest operating system Apple has to offer.
They also released a developers preview for OS X Mountain Lion 10.8, which could be downloaded from here, so if you have an Apple developers account you can download it right away.
Some of you who are worried/ wondering if OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 will work on your Macs or not?
So here we are with a compatibility details and the minimum hardware requirements and configuration for the OS X Mountain Lion to run
Firstly, try the terminal test to check if you Mac will boot in 64 bit Mode, to do so, type uname -a in your Terminal Windows, if you see x86_64, your system is OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 ready.
OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 requires a 64 bit processor and an ability to boot into OS X 64-bit kernel along with an Advance GPU Chipset, Most Macs running the Lion 10.7 will be compatible.
Lists of Macs OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 will be compatible with, newer the better
- MacBook Pro 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
- MacBook Air late 2008 and newer
- iMac models from mid 2007 and newer
- MacBook 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
- Mac Mini early 2009 and newer
- Mac Pro early 2008 models and newer
- XServe early 2009 models and newer
Lists of Macs OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 will not be compatible with, older Mac with less powerful GPUs are left behind
- Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
- Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
- MacBook models released prior to 2008
- Mac Mini released prior to 2007
- iMac models released prior to 2007
- Original MacBook Air
The Hardware requirements and configurations for OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 may change when it graduates to the Goldmasters edition and Final builds.
