If you are using iOS5 on your iDevices you must have noticed iCloud, the cloud storage drive from Apple, it has more features that you think, right from updating your contacts to the cloud, it also serves purpose of saving your data including your photo to the cloud. Which can downloaded to iPhoto, synced with the same iCloud account. Photo Stream, basically stores all your photographs on the cloud storage that were taken on the device.
Fairly great service with a few drawbacks, it requires you to have the latest version of the iPhoto installed. Quite a few Mac users do usually use iPhoto, so if we could find a way out to store the photos to a specific folder without the hassles with be a perfect solution, isn’t it?
DJF3, A Macworld Forum member has done exactly what is required. DJF3 has devised an AppleScript that, when executed, changes the location of photo storage and nullifies the use of iPhoto at all.
Here is how you can Copy iOS 5 Photo Stream images to a folder instead iPhoto on Mac OSX
1. Open Apple Script Editor on Mac, Application > AppleScript Editor
2. Copy paste
tell application “Finder” set this_folder to “Macintosh HD:Users:duittenb:Library:Application Support:iLifeAssetManagement:assets” as alias set target_folder to “Macintosh HD:Users:user:Pictures:MyStream” as alias try duplicate (every file of the entire contents of this_folder whose name contains “IMG”) to the target_folder with replacing end try end tell
recommended to use Raw paste from our pastebin: http://pastebin.com/4qNBBvBi
3.Before you Save and exit the program, you need to change the target path folder MacintoshHD:Users:user:Pictures:MyStream to the folder on your hard drive where you want the images to be stored.
4. Click run in Automator and the script will magically copy all of your Photo Stream images to the targeted folder on your Mac.
