So guys, it is the newest entrant into the patent troll, Google has apparently sent a letter to IEEE to ask Apple to pay 2.25% of royalties for each device sold worldwide.
How can Google Ask Apple for royalties?
Remember, Google acquiring Motorola deal? Google has finally decided to make a move on Apple in the smartphone market and has send a letter asking the Institute of Electrical and ElectronicsEngineers to help it get a 2.25% royalty fee for each device sold worldwide which infringes on Motorola patents.
Motorola, recently sued Apple over patent infringements and it appears that the outcome will favor Motorola, If Apple will be found guilty for using Motorola technology in the iPhone, the company will be forced to pay a 2.25% royalty fee for each iPhone sold so far. Judging by the sales until now, the Cupertino-based company will pay several hundred millions to Google.
How much will Apple have to Pay to Google due to Motorola Patent Infringements?
Some several hundred Millions PLUS About $120 million will be paid to Motorola in order to be allowed to keep offering the related products in Germany, remember Motorola won an injunction in Germany against Apple?
This makes us think, is it good to develop some products and sell them or it would be better to just patent and sit there and sue every other company that even sightly infringes it.
What do you guys think?
