Android on the prowl: 56% of the mobile phone users brought an Android in the last 3 months

Nielsen, reported that 56% of the mobile phone users brought an Android, in a survey which was conducted for the last 3 months. All time Android users are a hefty 43%, as you can see the number of android users are on a rise. The preferences of these so-called “recent acquirers” are important as they are often a leading indicator of where the market is going.

iOS, Apple’s iPhone OS users have been stagnant on 28% of the smartphone users in the US. It is noted that everything a new iPhone is launched and given access to a new service provider, the sales increase, some less Apple needs to learn here.

The upcoming holiday season and the launch of the new iPhone 5 might further accelerate smartphone adoption, this might increase the iOS share, but would that be a stable share or just a spike due to the hype surrounding the launch. We shall wait and see, the Next iPhone launches on 4th October 2011
