For someone who doesn’t know a lot about computer networks and routers, the IP address 192.168.1 won’t have any clear meaning. But the fact is that it is a significant component in networks and it is vital that you know how to troubleshoot it in case there is a problem.


This IP address denotes the 192.168.1.x address range whereby x is any number between 1 to 255. The 192.168.1 is a private IP address and it is the one used by Linksys, a company that makes a popular brand of broadband router.

It should be noted that this 192.168.1 address is not considered as a legitimate Internet Protocol address for a host or router. Rather than use this particular number, they must be configured to utilize another type of address.


You need to keep in mind that 192.168.1 is utilized in routing tables and by an IP to internally check for 192.168.1.x in a network. A device on the network or router, a gateway device or router that is set up one of the networks will usually use as the default IP address.

One method is to use a NAT that can be placed in a system. Usually inserting a NAT in place will be enough to fix the problem. But if that doesn’t work then try renumbering. If that doesn’t work either it could be due to design flaws within the system, so check the structure.
