Anonymous behind the Facebook unavailability

Yes, Facebook for down for a lot of us for 2-3 hours about 2 days back and now our very own Anonymous have taken the responsibility for DDOSing the Social Network.

Service outages on Facebook began early Thursday morning and continued throughout the day. Outages for the site were seen as late as 6am PST the following morning.

DownforeveryoneOrJustme, confirmed that the website was down for a lot of users including users from US and UK.

Facebook’s official statement want, “Some users briefly experienced issues loading the site, “Facebook said in a statement regarding the outage. The issues have since been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Facebook refuse to comment that the service disruption was a Denial of Service Attack but that actual story is something different.

Facebook shares were down $1.41 / 5 points thursday to close at $29.60, still 22% below its IPO price. Clearly the outage has affected the share price of the company.

It was reported that Anonymous were behind the attack and they updated via Twitter.

 

 

However, despite the claims by Anonymous, there is still some doubt if they have behind these outages.

As Jesse Eisenberg fumed during his fictional portrayal of ‘Mark Zuckerberg’ in Aaron Sorkin’s dramatized history of Facebook, ‘The Social Network’:

“If those servers are down for even a day, our entire reputation is irreversibly destroyed! Users are fickle, Friendster has proved that. Even a few people leaving would reverberate through the entire userbase. The users are interconnected, that is the whole point. College kids are online because their friends are online, and if one domino goes, the other dominos go, don’t you get that? I am not going back to the Caribbean Night at AEPi!”
