Review: Lightning to Micro USB Adapter for iPhone 5 and iPad Mini

Much required accessory to go with your iPhone 5, iPad Mini or any other iDevice that has a lightning connector, the new technology from Apple, which makes your older iPhone’s cables and charges obsolete.

When I had an iPhone 4S, I used to carry around the iPhone’s 30 Pin Connector to Micro USB and use my Galaxy Nexus Charger to charge my iPhone 4S.

Now when I brought an iPhone 5 the connector was useless and had to find an alternative for it, and guess what I found at MobileFun, a Lightning to Micro USB Adapter.

Here is my take on the Lightning to Micro USB Adapter for iPhone 5, iPad Mini and other iDevices

What’s in the Box

The Package is very minimal with no instructions whatsoever, and why would you need it, all you have to do is remove it out of the package and connect the Micro USB to one side and connect the iPhone to another.

It is extremely small in size, so small that you might misplace it, :P that happened once to me. If you want to get an idea of the size of it, check the below image, take your original Lightning Cable and hide off the attached cable to it, that is the Size of the Lightning to micro USB Adapter

Usage

Its extremely simple to use, we tried it with the Pinlo case on our iPhone 5 and works like a charm, it not only charges the iPhone, but if you connect it to a USB to microUSB cable, it can even Sync the iPhone with iTunes.

With Cases that just have port cut-outs we think it will require at-least 1-2mm port clearance, if there is no gap, it looks difficult to use, unless its a Silicon based/Soft Case.

Pros:

  • Easy to Use
  • Light Weight
  • Compatible with almost all Micro USB Cables
  • Syncs and Charges your iPhone 5 simultaneously
  • Works the same like the Original Apple product but at almost half the price

Cons:

  • Since it’s small in size you might misplace it.
  • Hard cover with no port clearance may not be compatible.
  • Expensive than the Lightning cable itself

The Lightning to Micro USB Adapter is compatible with:

  • iPhone 5
  • iPod touch 5th generation
  • iPod nano 7th generation
  • iPad 4th generation
  • iPad mini

Final Verdict:

For a person like me, who carries all gadgets around, if I get a connector like this, it’s a boon, since I have to carry 1 less charger with me.
