How to connect Samsung Galaxy S2 to the PC via USB

You may first time have trouble connecting the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the PC, you may struggle with the issue when you try to connect the phone to the PC to access the SD card et. al. An error message appears “Android MTP Failed!”. You may also think that the phone is defective might go in for a replacement, but wait, there is a trick to get the Samsung Galaxy S2 to get connected to the PC.

Here is the trick, READY?

Ensure that you have already installed necessary drivers for your Samsung Galaxy S2 or install KIES on your PC.

Enable usb debugging from Menu > Settings > Applications
return to home screen
plug usb cable in
pull down status bar
press connect usb storage’ button

TAADAAAAAAAAAA!

Still didn’t work?

Ok here is another alternative

Go to Settings
Wireless & Network
USB utilities and click the button
then (and ONLY then) plug in USB cable

Voila!

Hi I have tried the second option – it doesnt work – the first option – i dont have an option to debug usb… extremely frustrated as this is the second day i am trying to connect to my pc. Pls help

The Second option should definitely work unless you are doing something wrong.

DO NOT connect your phone to the PC..

In the USB Utilities, click on the button that says, Connect Storage to PC, after that connect the USB cable

Hi, thanks for getting back to me – it doesnt work – its says it’ll only work in idle mode and that i have to close all running applications – which there are none running except the essential ones… i have just tried to download Kies – and it doesnt connect there either…

Take you phone, in Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings ? About phone ? USB settings ? Mass storage. (There are four modes like Samsung Kies, Media Player, Mass Storage, and PC internet. You just want to copy/paste files on the phone, so just select Mass Storage.)Select mount button to mount you phone to PC.

Once mounted, on the computer, open the drive that represents your device. It should be in My Computer/Computer for Windows users. (You can select either the memory card drive, or the phone drive, depending on which drive you are saving the movies/musics to.)

How do I put the phone in idle mode?
I have been into Settings, About Phone and there is nothing there that says USB Settings????

Try finding USB Utilities or USB Settings in the Phone settings.. once you find that, you should be good to go

No need to create any folders, it’s totally upto you.

To connect via Kies, Connect the phone via USB and select “Samsung Kies” where you currently selected Idle

hi i want to access internet on pc through galaxy s2.
I can connect to pc using usb cable. By changing settings in wifi-network connections. But while connecting showing a message it is supportable to Only windows vista and windows 7. I am using xp2.Help me out please.

Hey,please help me. I can’t connect my phone to the pc. There isn’t a USB buy in the drop box when i connect the phone n laptop together. And i can’t find the device on my laptop, computer, removable device section. The odd thing is, the phone charges when its connected to the USB. I’ve tried both ur methods n it doesn’t work. Please help me

Install Kies on your computer.
Using phone connect to Kies air. When computer asks for permission say yes. Plug in USB you should now be connected to your computer.

Hi, I have a windows xp pc that does not have wifi capability. I just got a new samsung galaxy s2 and cannot seem to connect the computer to the internet via the galaxy using a usb cable. I was able to do this very easily with my htc desire. I cannot download the software or anything for that matter due to the computer not having internet access unless its through the phone. Can you please help. Thanks

I have been trying to connect my Samsung S2 via usb …in mass storage mode,
Settings > Wireless & Network > USB utilities and click the button > then (and ONLY then) plug in USB cable
but I am not been able to connect it, it is showing all random messages of installing drivers and I am ending up doing nothing, please help

I tried both the steps.. But both the times its the same error… “One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it” .. When i clicked on that message it was showing that there are no drivers for this device installed on the PC.. So where can i download the drivers for USB, should nt they be automatically downloaded from phone to PC as soon as i connect it ??

These methods only work with a caveat for me…I’m using XP and for some reason the phone will not be properly recognized unless it is connected at boot. I can always get the drive letter listings to show, but cannot open them. If I reboot with the phone attached, it works just fine…I must have an issue, but cannot figure it out.
